Adam 12 is a popular American police procedural television series that aired on NBC from September 21, 1968, to May 20, 1975. The show follows the daily activities of two police officers, Pete Malloy and Jim Reed, as they patrol the streets of Los Angeles. The seventh season of the show comprised 26 episodes, and the thirteenth episode of the season is named G.T.A.
In this episode, Malloy and Reed, who are members of the Los Angeles Police Department's (LAPD) Metropolitan Division, are tasked with investigating a Grand Theft Auto (G.T.A.) case. In the early hours of the morning, a car is reported stolen from the parking lot of an apartment complex. The owners claim to have seen a group of young men near their car before it vanished.
The officers start their investigation by canvassing the area and talking to the residents of the apartment complex. They come across a young woman who claims to have seen the car being driven away by two men. She provides a basic description of the suspects, and the officers add it to their notes. They then run a search for stolen cars and find that several other cars have been reported stolen in the area.
Malloy and Reed follow up on their lead and start visiting junkyards in the hopes of locating the stolen car. They are helped by a young mechanic who is familiar with the area and knows where the stolen cars usually end up. They visit several junkyards but come up empty-handed.
The officers then try a different tactic and start visiting local chop shops, which are known to be involved in stealing cars. They pose as potential customers and start looking for stolen cars. They come across a chop shop that seems suspicious, and Malloy decides to set up a sting operation. He manages to get a couple of young men to come to the chop shop to sell a stolen car.
The suspects arrive, and Malloy and Reed try to arrest them, but the men run away. Malloy, who is chasing after one of the suspects, ends up getting into a footrace with him. The suspect eventually jumps over a fence and into a pool, where he tries to hide from the officers. Malloy jumps in after him, and they have a brief struggle before Malloy manages to apprehend him.
With one of the suspects in custody, Malloy and Reed are able to get some valuable information about the other suspects. They manage to track down the car and arrest the other suspects, who are charged with grand theft auto. The episode ends with Malloy and Reed reflecting on their successful investigation.
Overall, G.T.A. is a thrilling episode that showcases the skills and expertise of the LAPD officers in solving a complicated criminal case. It highlights the challenges and dangers that police officers face on a daily basis and the importance of having a strong and committed law enforcement agency in our communities.
