In "Cars and Chicks," the second episode of According To Jim's second season, we see Jim and Cheryl arguing over the purchase of a brand new sports car. Jim dreams of owning a flashy car that he can show off around town, while Cheryl thinks the money could be put to better use elsewhere. Jim tries to convince her by offering to sell his old car to keep the total expenses within budget, but Cheryl refuses, stating that they need the money for their children's education.
Meanwhile, Andy convinces Jim to install a hidden camera in his new car to record women's reactions to the vehicle. He insists that it will be hilarious to see their reactions, but Jim is hesitant at first, not wanting to offend anyone or ruin his chances with his wife. Eventually, Jim gives in and installs the camera, and they hit the town to see what kind of reactions they can capture.
In the meantime, Dana and Ryan are arguing over their relationship. Ryan is frustrated with Dana's constant need to be in control, while Dana feels like Ryan isn't taking their relationship seriously enough. They reach a breaking point when Ryan finds out that Dana has been secretly attending therapy sessions, which he sees as a betrayal. They both decide to take some time apart to figure out what they really want.
As Jim and Andy drive around town, they capture some hilarious reactions from women who are impressed with the car, only to be disappointed when they realize it's not theirs. Jim starts to feel guilty about the whole thing, knowing that Cheryl would never approve of his behavior. Eventually, they encounter a woman who is genuinely interested in Jim and his car. However, she turns out to be an undercover police officer, and Jim is arrested for solicitation.
Back at home, Cheryl is furious with Jim when she finds out what he's been up to. She believes that his behavior is inexcusable and that he needs to take responsibility for his actions. Meanwhile, Ryan shows up at Jim's house, hoping to reconcile with Dana, but Dana is still struggling with her own issues. Ryan tries to convince her that he is serious about their relationship, but she needs some time to think things over.
In the end, Jim realizes that he made a mistake and apologizes to Cheryl for his behavior. He tells her that he understands why she didn't want him to buy the new car and that he's willing to make things right. Cheryl forgives him, and they both sit down to discuss their finances and priorities in the future.
Overall, "Cars and Chicks" is a hilarious and sometimes cringe-worthy episode that shows the ups and downs of Jim's relationship with Cheryl and the other characters in the show. The episode also touches on some serious issues related to trust, loyalty, and the importance of family. And, of course, there's plenty of laughter to be had along the way.
