In the second episode of the second season of "A Different World," titled "Two Gentlemen of Hillman," two new transfer students arrive on campus, both of them black men. One, Garth Parks (played by Lou Myers), is an older student who has been in prison for ten years and is determined to turn his life around and get an education. The other, Matthew Wyatt (played by Joshua Cadman), is a young, wealthy man who comes from a privileged background and has always had everything handed to him.

As Garth and Matthew both navigate their new environment, they find themselves drawn to different groups on campus. Garth is drawn to the older students, who he feels are more serious about their education and have more life experience. Matthew is drawn to the fraternities and sororities, where he is able to play up his wealth and status.

Meanwhile, Dwayne (played by Kadeem Hardison) is struggling with the fact that his girlfriend Denise (played by Lisa Bonet) has decided not to return to Hillman for the fall semester. He tries to keep himself busy with other activities, including joining the school newspaper and taking up photography, but he can't shake the feeling that something is missing.

As the two new students settle in, tensions rise between them and the other students on campus, particularly when Garth's past is revealed. Matthew finds himself caught in the middle, torn between his loyalty to Garth and his desire to fit in with the other students. This leads to a series of misunderstandings and conflicts that threaten to tear apart the community at Hillman College.

Ultimately, "Two Gentlemen of Hillman" is a powerful exploration of race, class, and identity, as well as a coming-of-age story for the two new transfer students. It highlights the challenges faced by black men in America, including issues of poverty, incarceration, and prejudice, while also celebrating the resilience and determination of those who are able to overcome these obstacles and achieve their dreams.
