Throughout the episode, the team members continue to deal with their own personal issues while working together to save lives. An insight into the firefighters' personal lives is given as they find support in each other during their darkest hours.
Aside from the rescue mission, the episode features familiar themes of brotherhood, fatherhood, loss, and sacrifice as the members of the team wrestle with their problems and deal with the high-stress nature of their job.
