After the sudden death of his wife, Australian newspaper columnist George Turner decided to quit his job, sell his home, and move to New Zealand with his teenage children, Shay and Arlo. Episode 2 of 800 Words opens with the Turners trying to settle into their new life in the small coastal town of Weld.
As they try to adjust to their new surroundings, they are met with several challenges. Arlo, who is struggling to make friends in Weld, is being bullied by a group of boys at school.
