In the fourth season of 7th Heaven, episode nine titled "Dirty Laundry", the Camden family is hit with several challenges. Eric (played by Stephen Collins), the family patriarch, is worried about his youngest son, Sam, who seems to be having some behavioral issues. He enlists the help of a child psychologist to try and get to the root of Sam's problems.

Meanwhile, Lucy (played by Beverley Mitchell), the eldest daughter of the Camden family, is struggling with her responsibilities as a wife and mother. She is trying to balance her role as a stay-at-home mom with her desire to go back to school and finish her degree. Lucy's husband, Kevin (played by George Stults), tries to be supportive, but he also has his own responsibilities as a police officer.

The middle son, Simon (played by David Gallagher), is also going through some tough times. He is trying to find his own identity and figure out what he wants to do with his life. He experiments with different hobbies and interests, but nothing seems to stick. Simon's girlfriend, Rose (played by Sarah Thompson), is also going through some emotional upheaval, which puts pressure on their relationship.

Jessica Biel, who played the character of Mary Camden, was no longer a part of the show at this point, but her absence is still felt. Mary had left home to live with her husband, Carlos (played by Carlos Ponce), and start a new life together. This caused some tension between Mary and her family, especially her father, who was disappointed in her decision to leave home.

Despite all of these challenges, the Camden family tries to support each other as best they can. They attend church together and have family dinners, where they discuss their problems and try to find solutions. They also lean on their friends and community for support.

In this particular episode, "Dirty Laundry", the Camden family is forced to confront some uncomfortable truths. Eric discovers that Ruthie (played by Mackenzie Rosman), his youngest daughter, has been sneaking around with her boyfriend and lying to him about it. When Eric confronts Ruthie, she confesses that she has been sexually active and didn't know how to talk to her parents about it.

Eric and his wife, Annie (played by Catherine Hicks), are stunned by this revelation and struggle to know how to handle it. They are torn between their desire to protect their daughter and their need to respect her privacy and autonomy. They seek advice from their pastor and other parents in the community, but ultimately it is up to them to decide how to move forward.

Meanwhile, Lucy is dealing with her own secrets. She has been sneaking out of the house to attend night classes, which Kevin discovers when he catches her in a lie. Kevin is hurt that Lucy didn't trust him enough to tell him the truth and they have a heated argument about it.

Simon, too, is struggling with his own issues. He is feeling lost and unsure of himself, so he starts hanging out with a new group of friends who introduce him to drugs and alcohol. Simon is tempted to try these substances, but ultimately decides against it. However, when Rose finds out about his betrayal, she breaks up with him.

The title of the episode, "Dirty Laundry", refers to the fact that everyone in the Camden family has secrets and things they are hiding from each other. It is only by airing these secrets and confronting these uncomfortable truths that they can begin to heal and move forward.

Overall, this episode of 7th Heaven is a powerful exploration of family dynamics and the challenges of balancing individual desires and needs with those of the larger family unit. Through their struggles and triumphs, the Camden family shows that love and support can conquer even the toughest of obstacles.
