In season 4 episode 12 of 3rd Rock from the Sun, entitled "Dick and Taxes," the Solomons are dealing with their annual tax season. Officer Don takes on a new personal mantra, "Death to the IRS," which inspires Dick with the idea that he too needs to rebel against the tax agency.
Meanwhile, Sally and Harry have their own financial concerns, as Sally feels that her job would be more important if it had worth and Harry has found himself in debt after some questionable financial decisions. Tommy, on the other hand, has no financial worries, but he is desperate to convince Mary to marry him so that he may have a green card.
As the Solomons try to navigate their finances and their relationships, chaos ensues, and everyone starts to feel the stress of tax season. Even Dick's attempts to take down the IRS are foiled by their incredibly complex rules and regulations, leaving him to realize it is better to simply file his taxes and go on with his life.
By the end of the episode, the Solomons have come to grips with the reality of taxes, financial responsibility, and the importance of being truthful with themselves and one another. The episode is a hilarious take on a universal experience that everyone can relate to, making it a standout episode in the series.
