Ladies and gentlemen, 30 Rock is back for its second season with another hilarious episode, Seinfeld Vision! The episode starts with Jack Donaghy, the Vice President of East Coast Television and Microwave Oven Programming, pitching his new idea to Liz Lemon, head writer of The Girlie Show. The idea? To air reruns of Seinfeld on NBC every night at 10 p.m. Liz thinks it's a terrible idea, but Jack reminds her that Seinfeld is incredibly popular and could help boost their ratings for The Girlie Show.
Meanwhile, Jenna Maroney, the self-centered star of The Girlie Show, is upset about a magazine article that claims she's gained weight. She decides to go on a diet and hires an insane celebrity chef, who puts her on a strict diet of baby food and raw vegetables. Jenna becomes increasingly miserable and irritable over the course of the episode, and Liz eventually has to step in and tell her to start eating real food again.
Tracy Jordan, the unpredictable and often unhinged star of The Girlie Show, is also causing problems on set. He's convinced that a graffiti artist is trying to kill him, and he keeps sneaking off set to hide in his dressing room. Eventually, Liz has to use her Jedi mind tricks to convince Tracy that he's safe on set and that his irrational fears are unfounded.
Throughout the episode, Liz struggles to juggle all the chaos on set while also dealing with her own personal life. She's dating Floyd, a charming and handsome man who works in the NBC building, but she's unsure if he's really the right guy for her. She confides in her best friend and coworker, Frank, who gives her some much-needed advice.
The highlight of the episode, of course, is the "Seinfeld Vision" concept. Throughout the episode, different characters imagine what The Girlie Show would look like if it were shot in the style of Seinfeld. We get to see Liz, Jack, Tracy, Jenna, and the rest of the cast doing their best impressions of Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer. The whole thing is hilarious and well-done, and it's impossible not to laugh at the sight of Tracy Jordan in a puffy shirt.
Overall, Seinfeld Vision is a great start to the second season of 30 Rock. The show continues to be smart, funny, and irreverent, and the cast is firing on all cylinders. If you're a fan of Seinfeld or just love great comedy, this episode is definitely worth a watch.
