Ep 4. Day 4: 10:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M.

Day 4: 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. is the fourth episode of the fourth season of the popular TV show 24. The episode starts with Jack Bauer and Audrey Raines narrowly avoiding an assassination attempt while driving on a freeway in Los Angeles. The attackers turn out to be Russians who are trying to prevent the US from obtaining a vital component for their anti-missile defense system. Jack and Audrey manage to escape the attack and head to the CTU (Counter Terrorist Unit) LA offices.

The tension is high at CTU LA as they try to crack open a valuable chip that was recovered in the previous episode and contains important information about the Russians’ plot. Chloe O'Brian is leading the chip decryption efforts, while Jack and Audrey arrive at CTU to provide support. The chip appears to be heavily encrypted but Chloe believes she can crack it given some time.

Meanwhile, President John Keeler goes into massive cardiac arrest and is rushed into surgery. Vice President Charles Logan is immediately sworn in as Acting President for the duration of Keeler’s surgery. Vice President Logan is keen to ensure the continuity of government operations and orders CTU to identify and track down the terrorists responsible for the earlier attack on Jack and Audrey.

CTU analysts identify the Slava intercept, a piece of Russian military hardware that the terrorists are attempting to obtain. This hardware is vital to the functioning of the anti-missile defense system. They track the manufacturer of the hardware to a warehouse in the San Fernando Valley and Jack Bauer leads a team to investigate. Jack arrives at the warehouse with his team and he and his team start a gunfight with the terrorists. The gunfight is intense and Jack is able to take down a few of the terrorists before he is forced to retreat.

Back at the CTU offices, Chloe finally breaks the Russian encryption and the team discovers that the terrorists are planning to attack the US with missiles. Jack realizes that the Slava is a highly advanced missile defense system that would make it nearly impossible for the US to stop any incoming missiles. Jack rushes back to CTU and delivers the news to Vice President Logan and his team.

President Keeler comes out of surgery successfully and is recovering. Dr. Rosen, Keeler’s doctor later reveals to Logan that Keeler may not survive a second attack on his heart, thereby increasing the urgency of stopping the terrorists. Logan orders that the US military be put on high alert and they prepare to intercept the terrorists.

The episode ends with Jack and his team racing towards the terrorists and the US military also on the move. The stakes couldn't be higher as the fate of the country hangs in the balance.
