Day 4 of 24 begins with Homeland Security agent Jack Bauer arriving at the office early in the morning, ready to start another long day. After a quick briefing, Jack is given a new assignment - to head an operation against an Islamic terrorist group called the Araz Brothers, who are planning to detonate a nuclear device inside the United States.
Meanwhile, President John Keeler and his staff are on an early-morning jog when they receive news of a plane crash in northern Iowa. The president immediately heads to his office to begin dealing with the crisis, while his chief of staff, Walt Cummings, tries to keep the media from finding out.
As Jack and his team head to the Araz Brothers' hideout, they receive word that one of their agents, Caitlin, has been killed by the terrorists. Jack is devastated by the loss, but he knows that he must continue the mission.
Back at CTU, Chloe O'Brian is having a rough day trying to deal with her boss, Erin Driscoll, who is still grieving the loss of her daughter. Chloe tries to get Erin to focus on their job, but Erin is too emotional to be effective.
Meanwhile, Jack and his team are closing in on the Araz Brothers, but they are ambushed by a group of terrorists. In the ensuing firefight, Jack is forced to kill one of the terrorists, who turns out to be the brother of their target, Habib Marwan.
After the battle is over, Jack is horrified to discover that one of his team members, a man named Paul Raines, has been seriously injured. Jack does his best to comfort Paul's estranged wife, Audrey, who works for the Department of Defense.
As the day wears on, President Keeler receives word that the plane crash in Iowa was caused by a missile strike, not an accident. The president demands that the military find out who is responsible and retaliate.
At CTU, Chloe discovers that one of the Araz Brothers' henchmen is actually a mole working for Marwan. She tries to warn Jack, but they are too late - Marwan has already fled the country.
As the day draws to a close, Jack is left wondering if he has what it takes to stop Marwan and prevent a nuclear disaster from happening. But with his country under attack, he knows that he has no choice but to keep fighting.
Overall, Day 4: 7:00 A.M.-8:00 A.M. is a tense and action-packed episode of 24, full of political intrigue, unexpected twists, and heart-wrenching moments. It sets the stage for what promises to be another thrilling season of the hit television drama.
