In the second episode of the third season of 24, titled "Day 3: 2:00 P.M.-3:00 P.M.," the tension continues to escalate as the clock ticks towards an impending terrorist attack. The episode picks up where the first left off, with CTU agent Jack Bauer trying to track down a lead on a dangerous biological weapon that has been stolen by a group of terrorists.
As the hour progresses, Bauer races against the clock to track down the terrorists before they can unleash the virus on a crowded public place. Meanwhile, tensions mount between Bauer and his superior, Tony Almeida, as they clash over the best course of action. As the stakes become higher and higher, Bauer must make some tough choices about who to trust and how far he is willing to go to stop the terrorists.
The episode also focuses on the aftermath of a shocking event from the first episode, in which one of CTU's key agents is assassinated. As CTU reels from the loss, Bauer and his colleagues must work quickly to figure out who was responsible for the attack and how they can prevent any further deaths.
Amidst all of this action and intrigue, the episode also introduces a number of new characters who will play important roles throughout the season. We meet Chase Edmunds, a rebellious and unpredictable agent who quickly shows himself to be a wildcard in the mission to stop the terrorists. We also meet President David Palmer's brother, Wayne, who is embroiled in a scandal of his own that threatens to derail Palmer's presidency.
Throughout the episode, the tension and drama is ratcheted up to a fever pitch, as Jack Bauer races against the clock to save thousands of lives. As CTU's top agent, Bauer knows that the fate of the country rests on his shoulders, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to keep America safe.
