At St George's Hospital in southwest London, it's a busy day in the A&E department. In this episode of 24 Hours In A&E, we follow the stories of several patients who have ended up in the emergency department for various reasons.

Firstly, we meet 83-year-old Irene, who was rushed to the hospital after having a fall at home. Irene's daughter Caroline has accompanied her to the hospital and is worried about her mother's welfare. Irene is confused and disorientated, and the doctors are concerned that she may have a bleed on the brain. They order a CT scan to investigate further.

Next, we meet 21-year-old Nathaniel, who was involved in a motorcycle accident. Nathaniel is in a lot of pain but is conscious and able to speak. He tells the doctors that he was thrown off his bike after losing control on a bend. The doctors suspect he has a broken collarbone and order X-rays to confirm their suspicions.

We then meet 38-year-old John, who has arrived at the hospital after being found collapsed in the street. The doctors are concerned that John may have taken an overdose, and they order blood tests to find out what is going on.

Another patient who arrives at the hospital is 22-year-old Ryan, who has been experiencing chest pains and shortness of breath. Ryan has a history of asthma, and the doctors suspect that he may be having an asthma attack. They give him medication to open up his airways and observe him closely.

As the day wears on, we see the hospital staff dealing with the usual stream of minor injuries and illnesses that come through the doors of the A&E department. These include a young child with a cut to the forehead, a woman with a sprained ankle, and a man with a nosebleed.

As the episode progresses, we see the doctors and nurses working tirelessly to diagnose and treat the patients who have arrived at the hospital. Irene is found to have a bleed on the brain and is taken to the neurosurgery department for emergency surgery. Nathaniel is diagnosed with a broken collarbone and is given pain relief. John's blood tests reveal he has taken an overdose, and he is transferred to the psychiatric unit for further evaluation. Ryan's condition improves after receiving treatment for his asthma attack.

Throughout the episode, we hear from the patients themselves, as well as their family members. They share their thoughts and feelings as they wait for news on their loved ones and as they receive treatment from the hospital staff. We also hear from the doctors and nurses who are working hard to keep the patients safe and comfortable.

In the end, all the patients featured in the episode receive the care and treatment they need. The episode ends with an update on their conditions and a sense of the tireless and essential work of the A&E department.
