24 Hours In A&E is a British medical documentary show that showcases the hustle and bustle of a busy emergency room. Each episode focuses on the patients as they come in with various ailments, injuries, and medical emergencies. In this episode, Episode 4 of season 12, viewers get an inside look at the doctors, nurses, and staff at St. George's Hospital in Tooting, South London.
The episode begins with the arrival of a young woman who has been in a car accident while on her way to work. The paramedics bring her in on a stretcher, and the emergency team is quickly assembled to assess her injuries. They discover that she has a fractured ankle and several cuts and bruises but is otherwise stable. The team works to stabilize her and make her comfortable as they prepare to transport her to the orthopedics unit for further treatment.
Next, the team is called to attend to an elderly woman who has fallen and hit her head. She is disoriented and incoherent, and the staff suspects that she may have suffered a stroke. The medical team quickly gets to work, performing a series of tests and scans to determine the extent of her injuries. They discover that she has a blood clot near her brain and needs to be transported immediately to a specialist unit at another hospital.
The third patient is a man who has been brought in by ambulance after suffering from chest pains. The staff quickly assesses his condition and determines that he is having a heart attack. The team springs into action, administering medication and performing tests to determine the extent of the damage to his heart. The man is stabilized and sent to the cardiac unit for further treatment.
The fourth and final patient is a young child who has been brought in after falling off a jungle gym at a local park. The child is crying and in pain, and the medical team quickly assesses that she has a minor head injury and a broken arm. The staff works to make her comfortable and reassuring her parents that she is going to be okay. They take her for a CT scan to rule out any other injuries and set her arm in a cast in preparation for her discharge.
Throughout the episode, viewers get a close-up look at the incredible teamwork and dedication of the staff at St. George's Hospital.
