Mrs. Thompson presents to the A&E department after a fall in her bathroom. She hit her head and is now experiencing dizziness and confusion. Her daughter, Susan accompanies her. Upon arrival, Mrs. Thompson is triaged and seen by a nurse who noted that she has a suspected head injury and a bruise on her temple. Susan explains that her mother has been living alone since her father passed away, and she has been struggling to cope with the loss.
The medical team decides to carry out a CT scan on Mrs. Thompson to assess any potential head trauma. During the scan, Susan reflects on her mother's busy life and how she has always been independent even after the death of her husband. She discusses how they have tried to encourage her to move closer to them, but she has always remained stubborn and has refused to move.
The results of the CT scan show that Mrs. Thompson has a small subdural hematoma, which needs to be monitored. Susan is informed of her mother's condition and decides to stay with her in the hospital overnight. She is worried about her mother's wellbeing and reflects on how important it is to value family and spend time with loved ones.
Meanwhile, the team also receive a call about three-year-old Freddie who has accidentally ingested some of his grandmother's medication. His mother, Tracey, is in a state of panic and rushes him to the A&E department. Upon arrival, Freddie is taken straight to resuscitation. Tracey describes how she came home to find Freddie with his grandmother's pill bottle open and pills scattered on the floor.
The medical team quickly diagnosed him with an overdose and administered an antidote to reverse the effects of the medication. Tracey is understandably upset and reflects on the importance of being vigilant when it comes to household medication safety.
Later on, the team also receive a call about 48-year-old Barbara who fell down the stairs while carrying her laundry basket. Barbara is a nurse who has spent her life caring for others, but now she finds herself needing help. Her husband, Frank is with her and explains how they have been taking care of their daughter, who has cerebral palsy, for many years. He reflects on the struggles of being a caregiver and the importance of always being there for those who need help.
Barbara's injuries include a fractured collarbone and a dislocated shoulder. The medical team works to reduce the pain and help her regain movement in her shoulder. Frank reflects on the importance of being there for each other and the need to cherish the moments spent with loved ones.
