When three best friends, CJ, Fenwick, and Crispo, find out they're about to enter high school, they make a pact to complete a list of 100 things they want to achieve before they graduate middle school. In season 1 episode 12, titled "Be a Mad Scientist Thing!," the trio tackles number 57 on their list: become a mad scientist.
CJ is determined to make this dream a reality, especially after her science teacher uses a "choose your own adventure" book to teach a lesson on chemistry. She believes that science is all about experimentation, so she decides to create a project for the annual school science fair. However, things start to go awry when she realizes she needs a lab partner and is unable to snag Fenwick or Crispo to help her out.
In her quest to become a mad scientist, CJ turns to her older brother, Ronbie, for help. He happens to be a science buff himself and suggests that she use his old science kit to create something unique. CJ decides to invent a new scent, but her first attempt ends up smelling terrible. After some experiments, she comes up with the perfect concoction - a fragrance that smells like the perfect beach day.
CJ's uncle, who is a chemist, agrees to lend her his high-tech equipment to perfect her new scent. When CJ finally presents her project at the science fair, she's surprised to see that her peers are not impressed. However, CJ thinks fast on her feet and decides to make it rain in the school gym. Her beach day fragrance mixed with water creates an ultimate vacation atmosphere, and soon everyone is raving about her project.
In the end, CJ realizes that science is not just about following the rules but following her instincts and taking risks. She also comes to appreciate the value of collaboration, even though she initially didn't want to work with anyone on her project.
"Be a Mad Scientist Thing!" is a fun and entertaining episode that encourages viewers to embrace their creativity and think outside the box. The show portrays the importance of friendship and collaboration in reaching our goals. It's also a fun and lighthearted way to introduce kids to science and encourage them to explore the many possibilities it offers.
