'Zootopia' Coming to Netflix?
by EG
This fall, some big Disney movies will be coming to Netflix, and the biggest animated hit of the year so far could be one of them. Thanks to a deal between the streaming service and the movie studio, all of Disney's 2016 releases, including Zootopia, will be eligible for exclusive use by Netflix, and that could be fantastic news for subscribers.
According to the deal, which was put in place more than three years ago, Netflix will get exclusive streaming rights to Disney theatrical films released after the beginning of 2016, as well as titles from Pixar, Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm. That includes not only Zootopia, but also Captain America: Civil War, Finding Dory and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - in other words some of the biggest films of the year.
One big Disney/Lucasfilm movie slipped through Netflix's fingers. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens was released in December 2015, so it is covered by Disney's current deal with Starz and will air on that network eventually. In Canada, though, the terms of the deal are different, and Canadian Netflix subscribers will get to see The Force Awakens.
The Disney films should start to show up on Netflix in the U.S. in September, although no release schedule is set yet.
