Zooey Deschanel Is Pregnant!

Congratulations to Jess Day—er, Zooey Deschanel!

The "New Girl" star has confirmed that she is pregnant with her first child with boyfriend Jacob Pechenik. "Jacob and I are over the moon," she told People. "We are so excited to meet our little one."

The news is great for the couple personally, but professionally it could cause some hurdles that Deschanel will have to navigate. Mainly, the pregnancy brings the shooting schedule of "New Girl" into question.

The show is currently running with a full-season order every year and will have a couple of options: either they hide the pregnancy as best they can and likely cut a season short when Deschanel comes close to delivering (this was the approach taken by "Parks & Recreation" when Amy Poehler was pregnant), or they somehow incorporate the pregnancy into the show.

We think it's pretty unlikely considering the tone of the show, its current narrative and the character traits of Jess Day, that "New Girl" will have Jess get knocked up by Nick, so chances are there will be a short season of "New Girl" in your future.

Zooey now joins her sister, Emily Deschanel, in motherhood: Emily has one child, a boy named Henry, with her husband and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" star David Hornsby.
