Zooey Deschanel, Channing Tatum To Make 'SNL' Debuts Next Month
by Sean Comer"Saturday Night Live" will kick off the year's shortest month with two rising stars losing their respective "Live from New York . . ." cherries.
Batting first, Channing Tatum pulls the Feb. 4 hosting duty, alongside musical guests and indie-folk Grammy nominee darlings Bon Iver. Seven short days later, doe-eyed FOX darling Zooey Deschanel gets the Feb. 11 gig alongside up-and-coming pop duo Karmin.
Her recent divorce from hubby and Death Cab For Cutie lead singer Ben Gibbard aside, 2011 was a good year to be Zooey. Her debuting FOX sitcom "New Girl" got a full 11-episode pick-up after a mere two episodes. Not long after that, Deschanel picked up a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Television Series Musical or Comedy and the show itself picked up a nod for Best Television Series-Musical or Comedy.
Sure, it's a little odd that her older sister Emily has spent nearly seven full seasons anchoring FOX's procedural juggernaut "Bones" and never hosted "SNL" once. But go watch that half-past-adorable ukulele duet with Joseph Gordon-Levitt again and tell us you don't expect her to geek out most adorably screaming "Live from New York, it's Saturday night!"
It's been a pretty great year for Tatum, too. For one thing, he continued co-starring in one of movie history's most lucrative franchises as Summer 2011's "Transformer: Dark Of The Moon" made a staggering $1.12 billion and virtually guaranteed a fourth installment. More recently, expect plugging of Tatum's co-starring role in the Jonah Hill-penned TV-to-big-screen adaptation "21 Jump Street," hitting theaters March 16. More recently, he can be seen now in theaters co-starring in the action thriller "Haywire" with former women's MMA champion Gina Carano and later this year starting June 29 in "G.I. Joe: Retaliation."
Let's not forget the musical guests' own milestones, either. For both Bon Iver and Karmin, this will be the first time taking the famous NBC stage.
Be sure to watch Daniel Radcliffe talk about 'Harry Potter' sex wizards in this 'SNL' promo for this weekends episode.
