Zach Braff's Kickstarter Movie 'Wish I Was Here' Has a Trailer - Watch Here!
by Andy NeuenschwanderZach Braff fans, get ready to cheer. Zach Braff haters, get ready to hate.
The first trailer for "Wish I Was Here" has hit, and if Braff wanted us to see his new film as a true follow-up to "Garden State," then this is the perfect trailer for it. It has all the elements: Wide, static shots composed with the occasional immobile human body, cryptic lines about being a unique individual...The Shins...
But if Braff wanted to please his fans and fans of "Garden State," he needed all those elements. It's a good thing, too: "Wish I Was Here" was crowdfunded through Kickstarter, a move that many saw as unnecessary considering that Braff is a filmmaker with money and a degree of star power that could have probably gotten him funding from traditional sources.
Still, the movie looks interesting, although the trailer is more of a teaser than anything. Without any context from the descriptions Braff posted earlier on Kickstarter, this trailer would be very confusing. All you can really pick out is that Mandy Patinkin is a dying father who will probably break your heart and there's a spaceman.
Here's the story: Braff plays Aidan, a struggling actor with a wife and two kids who, due to financial problems, has to pull his kids out of private school. With the public school system failing, he decides to home-school the kids in his own unique way. Also, he fantasizes about being a space-knight. We'll see how this all fits together later, I suppose.
The project raised $3.1 million on Kickstarter through fan support, and will be distributed by Focus Features. The cast includes Zach Braff, Kate Hudson, Mandy Patinkin, Josh Gad, Ashley Greene and Jim Parsons.
Oh, and there's a brief appearance from Braff's "Scrubs" co-star Donald Faison in the trailer. Did someone say Turk/J.D. reunion?
