What Are You Watching New Year's Eve?
by EG
Considering the lack of love for 2016 that's prominent in the air right now, this New Year's Eve might be more conducive of celebration than most. If you're looking for televised celebration to help you say good riddance to 2016, you can look to some reliable favorites and a new addition or two.
Network TV has long been the place to go for New Year's Eve festivities, including the Times Square ball drop, and that tradition continues this year.
On ABC, you've got Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest starting at 8pm; the show has aired continuously since 1973, and this will be the fifth year that Seacrest hosts without the assistance of the late Clark. Guests include Mariah Carey and Gloria Estefan in NYC, plus a plethora of other performers beamed in from other cities around the world.
NBC offers its own traditon with New Year's Eve with Carson Daly, which has aired since 2003. Daly's party gets started at 10pm but takes a break for your local news before returning at 11:30. Guests this year include Blake Shelton, Jennifer Lopez, Pentatonix and Alicia Keys.
Fox doesn't have Ryan Seacrest or Carson Daly, but it's got Pitbull, and that means Pitbull's New Year's Revolution hits the air live from Miami at 11pm. Pitbull's been partying on New Year's Eve since 2014, and this time he's bringing Queen Latifah and Snoop Dogg with him.
Don't think it's worth it to stay up until midnight to welcome the new year? Netflix is serving up 10 different videos that feature characters from its original shows, including Fuller House and Trollhunters, counting down to the New Year. You can stream these videos any time you want, so you can trick your kids - or yourself - into thinking it's 2017 and still get to bed early.
