Yidio Video of the Day: Arcade Fire Wins the Grammy Edition

Yidio Video of the Day: Arcade Fire Wins the Grammy Edition While Lady Gaga’s egg entrance and the shocking Bieber loss may have dominated the headlines at The Grammys last night, the best surprise of the night came with the Album of the Year Award.

Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs beat out Katy Perry (Teenage Dream), Lady Gaga (The Fame Monster), Lady Antebellum (Need You Now) and Eminem (Recovery) to take home the prize.

While the Montreal-based band may have seemed an unlikely candidate to win the award given the jaw-dropping commercial power of Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire has been getting well-deserved kudos from critics and fans for the better part of a decade, based largely on gorgeous, nuanced, impeccably-produced albums and incomparably rousing live performances.

Between the Click of the Light and the Start of the Dream

While The Suburbs may not be the band’s best album (see the modern classic Funeral), it’s easily its most diverse and accessible.

Add increased radio play and a stirring headlining performance at this year’s Lollapalooza, and it’s easy to see why the band finally received the recognition it deserved from the Grammys.

In their honor, today’s Yidio Video of the Day: Scenes from the Suburbs.

Written by band members Win and Will Butler, and shot by acclaimed director Spike Jonez (who collaborated with Arcade Fire in "Where the Wild Things Are"), this particularly dope long-form music video is based on the title track from the Grammy Award -winning album.

As recently reported by the UK Guardian, Jonez will be premiering a short film entitled "Scenes from the Suburbs" using footage from the video at Germany’s Berlinaire film festival this week.

The 28-minute film stars a cast of unknowns, including Sienna Blau, Sam Dillon, Zoe Graham, Zeke Jarmon, Paul Pluymen and Ashlin Williamson.

Until Jonez officially releases the full 28 minute film, enjoy the video below. Mad props to Arcade Fire for the win!
