'X-Men: First Class 2' Confirmed to be 'Days of Future Past' Storyline

The good thing (or bad thing, if you don't like spoilers) about movie adaptations of comic books is that, if they are based on a specific storyline or issue, you can get a good idea of what to expect from the plot before shooting even begins.

Case in point: Bryan Singer just confirmed that the sequel to "X-Men: First Class" will be heavily based on the "Days of Future Past" storyline from the comics. To the average moviegoer that might not mean much, but it's music to a comic book fan's ears.

A little background: "Days of Future Past" is a storyline from "The Uncanny X-Men" in the early 1980's that became very popular among fans, and is often considered one of the best in Marvel Comics history. The story follows the X-Men as a future version of Kitty Pryde travels back in time psychically to warn the team of a catastrophic event that leads to serious anti-mutant anger, resulting in internment camps for mutants.

If that sounds complicated... well, it kinda is. But Singer noted that the sequel won't necessarily follow the story exactly, rather it will borrow elements from it. We'll see if they bother to keep the time travel thing in, or just create a situation where there are mutant internment camps in the 1960's. That could be an interesting theme, considering how soon after WWII it would be, when Japanese Americans went through the same imprisonment.
