'X-Files' Returns to Fox For an Overdue Revival!
by Shannon KeirnanIt's really happening! The "X-Files" are back!
A mere decade-plus after the series ended, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully will be returning to their home network.
"I think of it as a 13-year commercial break," joked series creator Chris Carter. Carter will be stepping back into production, and fans will be happy to know that pivotal stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will be reprising their iconic roles.
"The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger," Carter added. "A perfect time to tell these six stories."
Production begins this summer, though Fox has not yet set a release date. As you may have gathered, Fox will unfortunately be setting only six episodes for the brief revival.
The show ran for nine seasons and sparked two feature films, 1998's "The X-Files: Fight to the Future," and 2008's "The X-Files: I Want to Believe." It follows FBI agents Mulder and Scully, one a believer in the paranormal, one a skeptic, who investigate unexplained phenomena. First airing in 1993, Fox Television Group co-chairs Dana Walden and Gary Newman think the basic message will still appeal to audiences.
"'X-Files' was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture - yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as 'The X-Files,' and we're ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they've been waiting for."
So, dedicated fans... what do YOU think will be in store for these upcoming six episodes?
