X-Files Ends But More May Be Coming
by EG
The final episode of the six-episode revival of The X-Files aired this week, but already the show's creator is all but promising that more episodes are on the horizon. That's good news for fans who were not entirely satisfied with the miniseries' cilffhanger ending. There's no word, however, on how long they'll have to wait for new episodes.
X-Files creator Chris Carter told both the Hollywood Reporter and the New York Times that he's certain that Fox is ready to order more episodes of the series, but he says that negotiations with the network, as well as with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, are likely to be a drawn-out affair.
Fox executives have been a little more guarded about the prospect of continuing, saying that they'd love to do more but are aware of the difficulty in scheduling time with Duchovny and Anderson. In an interview with Variety last year, Duchovny was not enthusiastic about going beyond a limited run, but he did leave the door open to the possibility.
“I would never have gone and done another 22 episodes of X-Files, but we’re going to do six," he said. "Six to me sounds very doable at any walk of my life. It’s not a great hardship in terms of time. I would hope it will be successful, I would hope we could continue, but right now, I’m just looking at it as these six, and then we’ll see what happens."
The idea of a spin-off series featuring new characters has been floated, but none of the principals seems willing to commit to that direction.
