'The X Factor' Season 1, Episode 14 Recap - Find Out Who Made the Top 10

'The X Factor' Season 1, Episode 14 Recap - Find Out Who Made the Top 10 On Wednesday night, the Top 11 performed on "The X Factor," knowing that they audience vote would decide which two would be considered for elimination. Last night, one of them went home.

The evening opened with the Top 11 singing "Save the World" by Swedish House Mafia, for some reason. If there were any lip syncing snafus, nobody saw them. Do you suppose the contestants decided to learn the song after what happened last week? Nah, probably not.

Also performing on the stage last night was Willow Smith, whose repertoire seems to consist of repetitive lyrics and strange squeaking noises. More polished was the poppy Jessie J, who looked like she borrowed her wig from Katy Perry but gave an energetic performace of "Domino."

As the names were read off, starting with Stacey Francis and going through the rest of the solo artists, it came down to the two groups and the charismatic Chris Rene. Rene was sent through, leaving groups Lakoda Rayne and The Stereo Hogzz to have their "sing-off" for survival.

Lakoda Rayne took the stage first to sing "No Air" by (ironically enough) "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks. The performance was vocally a bit messy, and seemed less prepared than the group's past numbers. They were followed by The Stereo Hogzz, who sang "You Are Not Alone" by Michael Jackson. As usual, the group's leader Trace was strong, but his backup was a little on the weak side.

As the judges cast their votes, L.A. and Nicole each voted to send The Stereo Hogzz home. That sent the vote to Paula, who broke into tears and refused to vote... until, that is, she realized that if she didn't vote, the Hogzz would go home by default. That sent the vote to Simon, who lowered the axe and sent the Stereo Hogzz home.

If we've learned anything so far in these live rounds, it's that the viewers at home just don't identify with the Groups as much as they do with the solo acts. That's understandable, considering the soloists have a backstory that gives viewers a singular personality to identify with.

Because of this, it would be surprising to see anyone other than Lakoda Rayne go home next week. That would mean that all of Paula Abdul's contestants will have been eliminated within the first three live rounds, which doesn't bode well for "The X Factor" going forward: why have a Groups category if they have no chance of winning?
