'The X Factor' Goes Big: Watch the Eight-Minute Promo for Simon's New Show

'The X Factor' Goes Big: Watch the Eight-Minute Promo for Simon's New Show After months of speculation over who the hosts would be (including possibly Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg and Nicki Minaj), the ouster of Cheryl Cole and the official arrival of Nicole Scherzinger, the $5 million search for the next singing star is underway.

Simon Cowell's newest show "The X Factor" hits the air on Fox September 21st, and the show's producers have just released an eight-minute long trailer to give you a taste of what to expect.

Besides telling you exactly how much the hosts have on the line - Simon leaving "American Idol," L.A. Reid leaving Island Def Jam - the trailer provides a glimpse at some of the more promising contestants, some of the worst ones, and plenty of the prissy judge fits you've come to expect from Cowell.

So how is this show going to be different than "American idol" or the most recent hit entry into the singing competition landscape, "The Voice"?

Well for the looks of it, the age range is much wider, as the promo shows both a 13 year-old and a 42 year-old woman, both with exceptional talent. While those types of contestants might not have stood a chance on "American Idol," will they succeed on "The X Factor"?

Will a wider talent pool mean a higher quality of talent on this show than their competitors?

Exactly how much difference does a higher prize amount make in determining the success or failure of the show (and the contestants)?

With that much money and so many careers on the line, it should be fun to find out the answers.
