Willow Smith as 'Annie,' Directed by 'Glee' Creator Ryan Murphy?

via PR Photos Just a few weeks ago, Will Smith and his production company Overbrook Entertainment partnered up with Jay-Z to produce a remake of the Broadway musical "Annie", set to star Will's daughter Willow.

While Willow Smith hasn't been in too many movies yet, she is now well-known for her single "Whip My Hair" and seems primed to make the leap to movie stardom.

The question is, who will direct? Overbrook's first choice seems to be "Glee" director Ryan Murphy, who has been approached already about the job. Murphy seems the obvious choice to direct a Broadway musical adaptation, given the musical nature of "Glee" and the success he has integrating musical numbers into the show. After all, musical movies can either be huge successes ("Chicago") or big letdowns ("Nine"), so the choice of a director with a good feel for musicals is key for Smith's vehicle for his daughter.

Murphy also wrote and directed "Running with Scissors" and "Eat Pray Love," two movies that were slight letdowns commercially, so by all means he isn't a sure thing. However, with the power of the Gleeks behind him, all Overbrook would have to do it put "by the director of 'Glee'" on the movie poster and attendence could surge.

Ryan Murphy has also reportedly been approached about other possible musical remakes, including a film adaptation of the Broadway hit "Wicked", and a remake of the cult classic "Rocky Horror Picture Show." Of course, "Glee" recently did a Rocky Horror-themed episode, which Murphy wrote but did not direct.

There's also something of a question of what will happen to Murphy's involvement with "Glee" if he does end up directing the "Annie" remake. Directing is a time-consuming job, and presumably Murphy wouldn't be able to get the whole thing done during the TV show's off-season.

If he does take the job, he will certainly be missed on "Glee".
