William Shatner: Sued!
by Shannon KeirnanFormer employees of “$#*! My Dad Says” actor William Shatner are suing their boss for an unspecified amount.
Oscar Alfaro and his wife, Delmy have filed a lawsuit against Shatner (who is, fun fact, 81 years old now, if you can believe it). Alfaro is claiming that the actor and his wife, Elizabeth “harassed and berated” them, causing Alfaro to quit his position.
Why the harassing and berating? Because after “sustaining and undisclosed injury” at Shatner’s Studio City, California home, Alfaro refused to sign a waiver that would relinquish Shatner of any financial responsibilities associated with the injury.
Color me confused, isn’t all of that legal stuff supposed to happen before a job begins? Better yet, shouldn’t an employer be responsible for caring for an employee’s work-related injuries?
Alfaro worked for Shatner and his wife for twenty years, and he is claiming that he and Delmy suffered “humiliation,” “embarrassment” (…same thing) and “mental anguish” in addition to losing a source of income.
Shame, shame, Shatner.
True that no actual details have come out about this case besides that Alfaro suffered something undisclosed while doing something undisclosed (the two worked as Shatner's Handy Man and Housekeeper, say some sources), so perhaps emerging information will acquit Shatner of any wrong-doing, but the whole thing smells fishy.
Trying to get an employee to sign an injury waiver after suffering an injury? Unusual.
And frankly, it’s not like Shatner couldn’t afford to send his employee of twenty years to the hospital for treatment—unless maybe it’s less of a “nail through the finger” kind of deal and more like a “whole body transplant” situation that outweighs that "Star Trek" fortune.
Let’s hope the loveable actor will be redeemed in this case, or that Alfaro and his wife will get their justice in the end.
