Why Lindsay Lohan is Being Charged With Grand Theft

Accusations of theft were flying this week in the direction of Lindsay Lohan. After trying on a $2,500 necklace at a Venice, CA jewelry store, Lohan is on surveillance walking out with the bauble around her neck.

Did she really intend on stealing it? Don’t know, but her assistant returned it. Of course, there were the excuses of her being a victim, her thinking it was on loan…yadda yadda yadda.

So, when the DA came out and said there might be felony charges, some people thought it was overkill and that Lindsay was being picked on. Until you looked at her history.

Remember the fur coat that was gone from a club? The DA decided to go for a felony because of all the items that have turned up missing in Lindsay’s past where she hasn’t been charged.

From TMZ:

"Sources connected to the case tell us ... in deciding whether to prosecute, the D.A.'s Office heavily considered 3 incidents where Lindsay allegedly pilfered expensive items:

-- She was suspected of taking a $400,000 necklace in 2009 from an Elle Magazine photo shoot.

-- She was accused of stealing a $12,000 mink coat in 2008 from a NYC nightclub.

-- She was accused of taking a $35,000 Rolex from a "friend" in 2010.

Lindsay was not prosecuted or convicted in the three cases, but sources say prosecutors not only heavily considered the prior incidents in making their decision ... they will ask the judge to admit the 3 incidents into evidence to show  "prior bad acts" if the case goes to trial.

Our sources say there are other factors that weighed heavily in the decision to prosecute:

-- Lindsay has had repeated run-ins with the law, including 2 DUIs."

So, when you look at all of that, yeah, Lindsay seems to have a problem with sticky fingers. She is scheduled to arrive in court, where she will be charged and arraigned, at 1:30 PST.
