Why Amy Schumer Turned Down 'The Daily Show'

Why Amy Schumer Turned Down 'The Daily Show' Amy Schumer's wave of popularity seems to know no bounds these days.

In fact, word has just gotten out that the "Inside Amy Schumer" comedienne was even offered the much-coveted slot as Jon Stewart's replacement on "The Daily Show."

Schumer rejected the offer.

The seat eventually went to Trevor Noah, but apparently Schumer wasn't the only person to turn down the job. Amy Poehler and Chris Rock reportedly both passed on stepping in as Stewart's replacement.

So why does Schumer say she gave a firm "no" to the offer?

“I was so honored to be asked and considered," she said. "With Comedy Central, I project so much ‘You’re my parents!’ on the network and the people that run it, so them saying, ‘We believe in you and trust that you can do this,’ I thought, ‘Oh my god, thank you!'"

She continued, "And then I thought, 'Well, I could give everyone I love a job and we could all be together for five years.' But picturing being in a building and knowing what I was going to do for five years--I love not knowing. And I've never done anything safe or to make money for that reason. So, you know, I said, 'I can't start now.'"

Luckily there's plenty of Schumer to be seen. Not only is "Inside Amy Schumer" a huge hit for Comedy Central, but next month, Schumer will be appearing on the big screen alongside Bill Hader in "Trainwreck," which she herself wrote (directed by Judd Apatow).
