Which Singer Is Bashing 'Les Miserables?'
by Shannon KeirnanMost critics have only good things to say about the award shoe-in “Les Miserables,” but a few are expressing dissent... and quickly being quieted.
“American Idol” star and singer Adam Lambert was vocal via Twitter about his disappointment in the flick.
Lambert pointed out “The industry will say ‘these actors were so brave to attempt singing this score live’ but why not cast actors who could actually sound good?”
Ouch. He added, “I felt like I should ignore the vocals and focus on the emotional subtext- but the singing was so distracting at times it pulled me out.”
Fans of the movie were quick to defend it, and to scold Lambert for his opinion. He defended himself, saying, “I'm so glad we are all discussing this now! Look-I grew up w this musical and so my expectations are quite high. Didn't mean to b negative…. Sorry for being so harsh but it's so True!”
Did Lambert appreciate anything about the movie? He might not have appreciate, oh, say Hugh Jackman’s painfully strained “Bring Him Home” (I said it!) but he was entirely on board for waif-y Anne Hathaway as Fantine.
“DO go see it for Anne Hathaways performance. It's was breathtaking," he added, to placate.
Hathaway has said that her performance was just “eh,” and that she starved herself for the role to make up for her lack of talent with authenticity, but apparently she has at least one fan who appreciated her rendition.
Did you see the movie yet? Did you think anyone—aside from Hathaway—nailed it?
