What's New on Netflix in September?
by EG
There's not much happening at the box office this weekend, but there's plenty happening, movie-wise, at home thanks to Netflix. The people at The Verge have given us this helpful list of all the new content coming to Netflix in September, along with some of the new gems coming to Amazon and HBO, too.

The seventh season of HBO’s Game of Thrones is now over, sending the world careening into a hopeless content abyss. At this point, even the summer movie season isn’t around to lend any help. Desperate moments like this make it crystal clear why having multiple streaming services to choose from is a good thing.
Netflix is bolstering its movie selection in the coming month, adding films like Dead Poets Society, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Amores perros, and all four Jaws movies. (No, Jaws 3 won’t be presented in 3D, but trust me when I say that’s a good thing for everyone involved.) Netflix’s deal with Disney will reportedly expire in a couple of years, but in the meantime the studio’s movies are still coming. In September, that includes Hercules and Mulan. Netflix is also adding more of its own original programming, including the Stephen King adaptation Gerald’s Game, new seasons of Narcos and BoJack Horseman, and new episodes of Fuller House. Unfortunately, it’s also going to lose some titles, including Wes Craven horror favorites Scream and the original A Nightmare on Elm Street. With Halloween coming up, that isn’t ideal timing, but you’ve got until September 1st to watch both movies before they vanish.
Amazon Prime Video will also bolster its TV options with a new season of Jill Soloway’s award-winning Transparent, alongside other shows. The service will continue to build out its broad movie library with films like An American Werewolf in London, the recent Magnificent Seven remake, and James Gray’s The Lost City of Z.
HBO is going on a bit of an Al Pacino kick in September, adding Scarface, Scent of a Woman, and Sea of Love to its offerings. But it’s also going to get the Oscar-winning La La Land and Tron. Then, on September 17th, the channel will officially kick off the new David Simon and George Pelecanos series The Deuce. (The first episode is already available for streaming on HBO Now, as well as on HBO Go and on-demand.) Unfortunately, on September 30th, the service will lose some movies, including the original Blues Brothers, Straight Outta Compton, The Big Lebowski, and… Batman & Robin.
You’re on your own with that last one.
