Weekend Movie Trailers & Reviews: 'Finding Nemo 3D' or Zombies?

Forget about summer blockbusters and the Oscar run: this might be the best weekend in recent months to go see a movie. There's something for just about everyone, be it a great kid's movie redone in 3D, a couple of quality comedies, an Oscar-worthy drama, or a crappy action flick that might still be kinda fun. Since there are so many out this weekend, here are the quick hits:

"Finding Nemo 3D"

Rated G, 1 hr 40 mins

Rotten Tomatoes score: 99%

One of Pixar's best returns to theaters, this time in 3D. The move worked well with "The Lion King" and "Beauty and the Beast," now the Pixar side of Disney/Pixar gets its second shot. The movie itself is great as ever, and the underwater environment and action lends itself pretty well to the 3D upconversion. Bring the kids. Or don't. That's the beauty of Pixar.

"Resident Evil: Retribution"

Rated R, 1 hr 57 mins

RT score: 18%

The 437th movie in the "Resident Evil" series (okay fine it's just the fifth) sees the return of past allies, turned into enemies. But of course, if you're seeing this movie you're probably not all that concerned with plot. You're really there for the non-stop, video game style action that incorporates monsters from the classic video game series. Don't go in expecting Shakespeare, and you should be fine.

"The Master"

Rated R, 2 hrs 18 mins

RT score: 86%

Paul Thomas Anderson follows up his masterpiece "There Will Be Blood" with this new drama. It's slightly less epic in scope, but it hits just as hard: Joaquin Phoenix plays a post-war drifter who is taken in by the leader of a religion/cult (Phillip Seymour Hoffman), in a story that is said to comment on Scientology. The acting is superb, even if the movie itself isn't quite up to the level of "There Will Be Blood" among critics.

"Ten Years"

Rated PG-13, 1 hr 40 mins

RT score: 71%

If you want something lighter, check out this seriocomedy starring Channing Tatum (and his wife!) about a man who goes to his 10-year high school reunion and runs into an old flame (Rosario Dawson). The supporting cast is great, and includes comedic talents like Ari Graynor, Chris Pratt and Justin Long. This will be a limited release, so you might have to travel a bit to see it.

"Liberal Arts"

Unrated, 1 hr 37 mins

RT score: 58%

"How I Met Your Mother" star Josh Radnor returns to the big screen with another indie flick that he wrote, directed and starred in. This time, he has the buzzworthy Elizabeth Olsen on board in a movie that centers on a college admissions worker who pines for his own college days and finds new excitement when he meets a young woman at his alma mater. This one will likely be a very limited release.
