Weekend Box Office: 'San Andreas' Rocks, 'Aloha' Flops

This weekend saw two major openers at the box office, one of which flopped while the other soared. One was the big-budget "San Andreas," an earthquake disaster movie starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The other was "Aloha," a Cameron Crowe film that inexplicably starred Emma Stone as a Chinese-American woman.

Have you guessed yet which one flopped?

"San Andreas" was the big winner, bringing in a surprising $53.2 million. The movie performed well domestically and abroad, especially in countries like Mexico where earthquakes often hit.

"Pitch Perfect 2" continued an impressive and shocking run with another $14.8 million for a total of $147.5 million domestically over its first three weeks.

Another holdover took third as "Tomorrowland" failed to save its disappointing debut. It drew in $13.8 million in week two, putting it at $63.1 million total. The movie's lackluster performance may have contributed directly to Disney's decision to scrap plans for a "Tron" sequel.

"Mad Max: Fury Road" lost a little steam but brought in another $13.6 million for a total of $115.9 million, while "Avengers: Age of Ultron" brought in another $10.9 million for a whopping $427 million domestically thus far.

That means that "Aloha" got bumped out of the top five in its opening week, pulling only $10 million despite having big names on board, including "Almost Famous" writer/director Cameron Crowe and stars Bradley Cooper, Rachel McAdams and Emma Stone. The movie was panned by critics who called the plot "almost incoherent" and also slammed the decision to cast Stone as a woman of Chinese descent as opposed to an Asian actress like Olivia Munn.

Here's the top five for the week:

1. "San Andreas" - $53.2M

2. "Pitch Perfect 2" - $14.8M ($147.5M)

3. "Tomorrowland" - $13.8M ($63.1M)

4. "Mad Max: Fury Road" - $13.6M ($115.9M)

5. "Avengers: Age of Ultron" - $10.9M ($427M)
