Weekend Box Office: Perfect Guy and Visit in Photo Finish
by EG
On a weekend when it wasn't clear which new movie would attract a larger audience, the final results may be too close to call. The preliminary numbers, however, make it look like The Perfect Guy fared just a bit better than The Visit and will likely get the bragging rights to the title of top movie of the week.
The Perfect Guy, a thriller starring Sanaa Lathan and Michael Ealy, took in about $26.7 million dollars in its opening weekend, which is nearly three times as much as any of the new films that opened last weekend earned during their debut week. It was a very strong start, especially for a film that had a production budget of only about $12 million.
Right behind The Perfect Guy was The Visit, a comedic horror entry from director M. Night Shyamalan. The Visit earned $25.7 million, according to early estimates, and its take is so close to that of The Perfect Guy, there's some chance that The Visit could take the top spot once final numbers are tallied.
The week's third new wide release, 90 Minutes in Heaven, didn't come close to keeping pace with the other new releases. The inspirational Christian story earned only $2.2 million, a total that put it in ninth place for the week.
