Weekend Box Office: 'Magic Mike' & 'Terminator' Stomped By Dinosaurs
by Andy Neuenschwander
Not even a Terminator could take out the Indominous Rex.
"Jurassic World" was #1 at the box office yet again this weekend, giving it four straight weeks atop the list. The movie's $30.9 million was just enough to beat out Pixar's "Inside Out" at $30.1 million, barring any big changes Sunday.
That means that new releases "Terminator: Genisys" and "Magic Mike XXL" failed to place in even the top two this week, with the Terminator reboot earning $28.7 million after lackluster reviews and the "Magic Mike" sequel earning just $12 million.
Those numbers are especially rough considering they include the long weekend, which had many workers getting Friday off, with Wednesday/Thursday releases creating a five-day run. "Magic Mike" hoped to open near $40-50 million, so it will need a long, sustained run in theaters to make up for the lackluster opening.
Finishing up the list is "Ted 2," which continued a horrible showing with $11 million in its second week, a 67 percent drop off of an already disappointing opening.
Here are the top five for the week with domestic cumulative totals:
1. "Jurassic World" - $30.9M ($558.1M)
2. "Inside Out" - $30.1M ($246.1M)
3. "Terminator: Genisys" - $28.7M
4. "Magic Mike XXL" - $12M
5. "Ted 2" - $11M ($58.3M)
