Weekend Box Office: 'Lego Batman' Stays On Top for One More Week

The weather was unseasonably warm for much the country this weekend, and that probably had something to do with the fact that the week's new movies didn't attract big crowds. For whatever reason, the week's top two movies were the same as last week's, and the week's newcomers posted lackluster ticket sales.

The Lego Batman Movie was number one for the second weekend in a row. This week it earned $34 million, which is only about a 35 percent drop from last weekend.

With Valentine's Day over and most of the franchise's fans likely already having seen the film, Fifty Shades Darker dropped a big 55 percent this week, taking in about $21 million. That was still good enough for second place, though, for the second weekend in a row. Still, after two weekends, the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey has so far earned barely more than the original film earned in its first weekend.

Matt Damon's The Great Wall nailed down third place, as expected, with $18 million. John Wick: Chapter 2 was not too far behind with $16.5 million.

Fifth place went to the Ice Cube/Charlie Day comedy Fist Fight. This one underperformed even its modest expectations, drawing just $12 million and staying well out of the competition for third place.

Also underperforming was A Cure for Wellness, the week's final new release. The horror film barely squeaked into the top ten with $4.2 million. That's only a nose ahead of Lion, and when the final numbers come in later today, it's possible that A Cure for Wellness could give up the tenth-place spot.
