Weekend Box Office: 'Home' Beats 'Get Hard' for Dreamworks Win

For an animated movie made by Dreamworks and released in late March with a surprisingly quiet marketing campaign, "Home" had an awfully good weekend.

The new animated Dreamworks flick drew in a solid $54 million over its opening weekend, managing to edge out the Will Ferrell/Kevin Hart comedy "Get Hard" for the top spot.

"Get Hard" managed $34 million, roughly in line with non-blockbuster Will Ferrell releases ("Step Brothers," for example, opened to about $30 million). While the number isn't exactly fireworks, it's a decent opening for a comedy that only cost $40 million to make.

In third place was "The Divergent Series: Insurgent" with another $22 million, a relatively small drop from its opening weekend. That puts the movie at a little over $85 million total thus far, on track to pass $100 million domestically in the next couple of weeks.

"Cinderella" reached $150 million and took the #4 spot with another $17.5 million, while new horror offering "It Follows" took the fifth spot in its third week with $4 million.

The top five for the weekend with cumulative totals are below:

1. "Home" - $54M

2. "Get Hard" - $34M

3. "Insurgent" - $22M ($86.3M)

4. "Cinderella" - $17.5M ($150M)

5. "It Follows" - $4M ($.7M)
