Weekend Box Office: 'Avengers' Still #1, 'Hot Pursuit' Goes Cold

It's a strange world when a movie can make $875 million in 10 days and still be a bit of a disappointment.

That's the case with "Avengers: Age of Ultron" as the sequel has earned a massive $312.8 million domestically and $875.3 million globally in its first 10 days at the box office, but has still failed to meet or improve upon the numbers for the first "Avengers" movie, which still holds the record for biggest opening weekend and fastest movie to reach $1 billion.

Of course, we doubt that anyone at Marvel is lamenting those numbers, especially considering that "Age of Ultron" opened last weekend in competition with the Pacquiao/Mayweather fight and the NBA playoffs, keeping some potential audience members at home.

"Age of Ultron" brought in $77.2 million in its second weekend, running almost unopposed. "Hot Pursuit," the new cop comedy starring Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara, was the only other major opener over the weekend and brought in a disappointing $13.3 million. That's well under the mid to upper teens that the studio was hoping for, and a blow to the otherwise positive and lucrative trend of female-led comedies.

Still, it's worth noting that "Hot Pursuit" ended up with a measly 6% on Rotten Tomatoes with an audience score of under 50%, making it one of the worst-reviewed major releases of the year, so there's still hope for the likes of "Pitch Perfect 2," "Spy" and other female-led comedies due out this summer.

Here's the top five at the box office for the week:

1. "Avengers: Age of Ultron" - $77.2M ($312.8M)

2. "Hot Pursuit" - $13.3M

3. "The Age of Adaline" - $5.6M ($31.5M)

4. "Furious 7" - $5.2M ($338.4M)

5. "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" - $5.1M ($58M)
