Weekend Box Office: Mockingjay Wins, Frankenstein Fails

The big movies in theaters over the long Thanksgiving weekend divided up a big pie when it came to ticket sales. Last week's number one movie remained number one this week, but a couple of the newcomers turned in very respectable numbers, too.

The top movie for the week was The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, just as it was last weekend. The film took in about $76 million over the five-day holiday weekend. This last Hunger Games installment is still performing worse than all the other films in the franchise, but it's hardly a flop.

Coming in a strong second this week was Pixar's The Good Dinosaur. The animated film took in about $56 million over the weekend, which was something of a disappoint but, again, far from a disaster. The new Rocky film, Creed, settled into third place with about $43 million for the five-day period.

The week's only bomb was Victor Frankenstein, which stars James McAvoy as the infamous mad scientist. The film took in only $3.4 million over the five days and managed to secure a weak 12th place in the box-office race.
