Watch: X-Files Teaser Keeps Mystery Intact
by EG
The revival of The X-Files won't hit the air until January, but Fox is already trying to ramp up the anticipation by releasing a teaser trailer that doesn't tell us much about the new series except that it's probably going to be the same old creepy fun that we were hoping it was going to be.
The 30-second teaser consists of boldly colored, stylized animation of the series' central characters, along with a flying saucer and a monster or two.
"We must ask ourselves, are we truly alone or are we being lied to?," Agent Mulder intones at the beginning of the spot, assuring us that the central theme of the series hasn't changed.
The teaser gives us little information about the direction the new series will take, but a recent screening of the series' first episode at New York Comic Con revealed much more. From reports about that episode, we know that the series' action is set in the present day, with many years having passed between the end of the original series and the beginning of the new one. All of the principal actors from the original series have returned, including David Duchovny as Fox Mulder, Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully, and Mitch Pileggi as Agent Skinner.
