Could Disney's 'Wreck-It Ralph' Be Better than Pixar? Watch the Trailer!
by Andy NeuenschwanderDisney used to be the be-all and end-all in animated movies. Period. But ever since that upstart Pixar came on the scene, the balance of power has shifted in Pixar's favor, and we've seen the company put out hit after hit while Disney has struggled. Of course, Disney just bought Pixar to solve the problem... but still, you would assume that Disney would be eager to put out a hit of its own after efforts like "Tangled" and "Princess and the Frog" failed to live up to Pixar's "Toy Story 3" or "Wall-E."
But it looks like Disney may have just found its contender in "Wreck-It Ralph." The concept is so creative that it screams Pixar, but it's nonetheless a Disney movie: the story centers on Ralph, a villain in a Donkey Kong-esque video game who dreams of being more than a villain. In order to pursue his dreams of being a hero, he jumps from video game to video game, trying out different genres and attempting to fit in.
It's all a bit "Monsters Inc." in nature, but the concept is nonetheless pretty brilliant. Add to that a fantastic voice cast (John C. Reilly, Jane Lynch and Sarah Silverman, to name a few) and you have yourself a promising venture.
Plus, Disney really seems to have shelled out the big bucks in terms of licensing, as Ralph's villain support group features characters like Zangief, M. Bison, Bowser and others. Imagine what "The Incredibles" would have been like if there had been real Marvel superheroes in it!
