Watch Tony Hawk Ride the World's First Working Hoverboard
by Andy NeuenschwanderAs we all know, society is meant to have hoverboards in mass production by October of 2015. We know this because of the historical archives of the "Back to the Future" documentaries.
Yet things weren't looking great for the human race in terms of hoverboard technology, as it all seemed just out of reach. Until now.
Hendo Hover has created the first working hoverboard, which glides just centimeters off the ground. Naturally, they got legendary professional skateboarder Tony Hawk to test it out.
The video features Hawk using the hoverboard to skate around a very tame halfpipe, with the pro skater seemingly adapting quickly to the board's quirks.
It's an impressive machine, and it has some serious implications for the sport of skateboarding, considering that you can do full 360-degree spins on the spot with the board and its lack of friction. In fact, Hawk does one of those in the video, and it looks like he almost breaks the thing in the process.
Of course, we're still way off from the mass-produced Mattel hoverboards as seen in "Back to the Future Part II," especially since it requires a special surface under it to work. The true hoverboards in BTTF could work on any surface...except water. Unless you had power.
