Watch the Terrible Alternate Ending to 'Titanic'
by Andy NeuenschwanderPretty much anyone who was alive in the 1990's has seen James Cameron's epic "Titanic." Pretty much everyone who saw "Titanic" knows that the ending was a little frustrating.
First, there was the fact that Jack could have totally fit on that floating piece of door.
Second, there's the fact that Old Rose throws her priceless diamond necklace over the edge of poor Bill Paxton's boat, because apparently the many thousands of dollars that Paxton spent to salvage the wreckage in search of that very necklace is worth less than Rose's emotional closure. The kind of closure that comes from throwing millions of dollars in jewelry off the side of a boat.
A little known fact about "Titanic" is that there was actually an alternate ending. No, this isn't some ploy to get you to watch a sketch from some YouTube comedy troupe. This is an actual alternate ending filmed by Cameron with the original cast.
It is terrible.
There's a weird hostage situation with the necklace, and Paxton tries to tell Rose not to drop it, and then she lets him hold it and tries to tell him some crap about only life being priceless. Yeah yeah lady, I know life is priceless, but this thing is worth a lot of money, so spare me.
Spoiler alert: she still drops it. But there's some weird dialogue around it too, and it's far more heartbreaking this time because the crew knew they had it.
