Watch The Teaser For The New Trailer For Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus'

Tick-tock. The clock's ticking toward summer, when TV's malaisse of reruns means your local multiplex and mine seize the day.

Ridley Scott's potential sci-fi blockbuster "Prometheus" looks to lead the Summer 2012 pack out of the gate when it drops this June. In a bold set of decision-making, 20th Century Fox eschewed pricey advertising during this year's Super Bowl, but has twice now released teasers pimping Scott's thrill-ride's upcoming trailers.

To Scott's credit, it is kind of a big deal. The film is loosely considered a prequel to his 1979 space-horror masterpiece "Alien" and was co-written by "Lost" mastermind Damon Lindelof. Set in the same universe as the four-film "Alien" anthology Scott birthed but 30 years before the first film, Noomi Rapace plays archaeologist Elizabeth Shaw, who leads a team examining an advanced extraterrestrial civilation and seeking the origins of humanity. Michael Fassbender plays an Android accompanying the team on its quest. Guy Pearce even appears briefly as Peter Weyland, presumably he of the franchise's omnipresent Weyland Utani Corporation frequently sending humans into the spaces where they encounter the alien xenomorphs. Lastly, Charlize Theron plays a corporate figurehead with a potential agenda on the mission.

"Prometheus" hits theaters June 8 in 2D, 3D and 3D IMAX formats.
