Watch the Music Video for Taylor Swift's 'Safe and Sound' from 'The Hunger Games'
by Andy NeuenschwanderIt's a big day for news about "The Hunger Games" soundtrack: just as The Decemberists' single "One Engine" hits the Internet, so does the official music video for Taylor Swift's "Safe and Sound."
The video features Swift walking alone through a sparse and grey landscape, stopping at graves and abandoned houses while she sings the haunting melody, accompanied by Civil Wars, who sit by the fire in a cabin and harmonize. The video certainly captures the feeling of isolation that Katniss feels for most of the Games, and a bit of the foreboding: the graves are one thing, but a deer that turns into ashes is even creepier.
There's no footage from the movie to accompany the video (and that's probably just as well, it always comes off as a bit cheap), but the mockingjay pin does make an appearance as Swift searches through a house that would fit right in to the shabby environment of District 12.
Evaporating deer aside, the most shocking thing of all about the video may be Swift's minimalist eye makeup. Little to no eyeliner? Gasp!
