Watch John Oliver Eviscerate Dr. Oz Over Fake Diet Pills
by Andy NeuenschwanderDr. Oz, meet Dr. Oliver.
Okay, so comedian John Oliver isn't actually a doctor, but he is a pretty smart guy. Smart enough to know that the "miracle" diet pills that Dr. Oz endorses on his show are completely useless, anyway.
Dr. Oz had a rough week when he went in front of a Congressional panel for a hearing about Pure Green Coffee Beans and Oz's endorsement of them on his television show. The hearing involved Dr. Oz being more or less called a liar repeatedly by U.S. senators, which is saying something.
Things only got worse when this video, a clip from this week's "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver," went viral. In the clip, Oliver rips into Oz even more than the senators did.
"You're presenting it as a doctor," Oliver says. "If you want to keep spouting this bulls**t, that's fine, but don't call your show 'Dr. Oz.' Call it 'Check This Sh*t Out With Some Guy Named Mehmet."
Oliver went further, taking on the largely unregulated supplements industry as a whole. "The industry is essentially supposed to police itself," he said. "That's like one of those porn sites that asks you to enter your own age."
To cap it off, Oliver proved that you can pander to your audience without dangerously misleading them by having a short Skype interview with none other than "Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin, who may have just killed off your three favorite remaining characters.
