Watch 'Glee' Star Darren Criss Tour With His Theater Group, 'StarKid'
by Andy NeuenschwanderIf you're a fan of Darren Criss and his performance as Blaine on "Glee," then you might already know that before he hit the big time on Fox's big musical comedy, he wrote and starred in viral musicals on YouTube. Yep, true story.
Criss teamed up with fellow University of Michigan students after their graduation and created the Harry Potter spoof musical "A Very Potter Musical," which amassed nearly 8 million views to date and even spawned a sequel. After that, the group began calling themselves "Team StarKid" and went on to create new comedy musicals and even go on a nationwide tour.
Some lucky fans got to see Criss, post-"Glee" fame, perform with his theater group toward the end of that tour. If you missed it, you can see glimpses of it and hear StarKid founders Brian Holden and Joe Walker talk about StarKid with Criss in this interview video from VH1, who caught up with the group on the tour.
The group's sense of humor can be summed up in the way Criss describes Team StarKid: "We're a bunch of idiots that kinda know what we're doing, and the fact that people have been so supportive of our idiocy is amazing."
"And irresponsible," adds Holden.
