Watch Chris Rock's Controversial 'SNL' Monologue
by Andy NeuenschwanderChris Rock was on "Saturday Night Live" this weekend, and he took every opportunity to make headlines.
Much like with fellow comedian Louis C.K.'s appearance on "SNL" earlier this year, Rock took his monologue segment and basically performed a short stand-up comedy set, playing to his strengths.
However, Rock's choice of material turned out to be controversial for the show, as the comedian told jokes on topics like terrorism, 9/11 and the Boston Marathon bombing.
"They should change the name of the Freedom Tower to the Never Going In There Tower," Rock said in his set. "Are you kidding me? Does this building duck? What were they thinking?"
Rock's set was met with laughter and applause on set, but the conversation on Twitter was led by people who were shocked, and in some cases appalled, by Rock's choice of subject matter.
"Chris Rock's opening monologue is awful - as a New Yorker, these jokes are unacceptable," one user wrote. But others thought that Rock "brought it" and revitalized a show that saw some of its lowest ratings just a couple of weeks ago when former cast member Bill Hader came back to host.
