Watch the Brand-New 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Trailer!
by Andy NeuenschwanderThe new "Guardians of the Galaxy" trailer is here!
For the past week, Marvel has been releasing short, 20-second teasers of the release of a trailer, a strategy that we've seen in the past for major releases like "The Hunger Games." As of today, those teasers are done and the official trailer is available for viewing.
And it's pretty awesome, too.
This time around, we see a lot more action from our "heroes," including some thieving from Star Lord (Chris Pratt), some fighting from Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Drax (Dave Bautista), and plenty of shooting from Rocket Racoon, whose voice (provided by Bradley Cooper) we get to hear for the first time.
Also heard for the first time is Groot, played by Vin Diesel, who speaks the tree-like character's famous (and likely only) line.
We also get a bit more sense of the plot: Some evil force is threatening to take over the galaxy, and through some twist of fate, these five criminals are the only ones who can stop it. That cues up plenty of high-flying action shots, lots of explosions, and some pretty exciting fights, all set to "Spirit in the Sky."
Of course, the trailer also sticks with "Hooked on a Feeling," which appears to be the official anthem of the film.
While Marvel has yet to make a bad move in terms of their new studio's movie releases, "Guardians" is their first major risk. These aren't characters that are well known to audiences, and it's unlikely that we'll even see some of the other major heroes in this movie, since they're not on Earth. In a way, John C. Reilly saying, "This might not be the best idea" could be an admission from Marvel itself over the risk it's taking.
Still, excitement from fans is getting the movie plenty of buzz...at least enough to justify week-long teasers for trailer releases. And for non-fans, Marvel always has the advantage of having set up their movies to feed into one another, giving the impression that "Guardians" must be viewed before the release of "Avengers 2."
